Biography

The music of Dimaeon is all about serenity, symmetry and beauty, co-existing with entropy, misery and brutality. Each epic composition runs through its own distinct set of contrasting emotions, yet always saturated with melancholy. Influences range from 70's progressive rock to death metal, from doom to jazz-fusion and back again.

Dimaeon was formed in the autumn of 2002 by Ferdinand, Rembert and Jelle. The band's name is derived from a poem Rembert wrote, entitled "The Diminished Aeon". After some line-up changes and periods of inactivity, a steady line up was established when Philippus (bass), Janneke (keys) and Sybren (guitar) joined Dimaeon.

In the spring of 2004 the first live performance of Dimaeon could be witnessed. Since then, the band played various gigs in the north part of the Netherlands, sharing the stage with bands like Epica (NL), Stream Of Passion (NL), Andromeda (Swe), Ancient Rites (Bel), Toxic Holocaust (USA), Sun Caged (NL), Autumn (NL) and The Wounded (NL). In the Dutch Metal Battle contest of 2005, Dimaeon made it to the semi-finals after claiming victory in the quarter final. Opening the international XO Prog festival (2006) in Leeuwarden (NL) was another highlight in Dimaeon's live career.

Dimaeon released the self-recorded demo "Echoes in a Dying World" in 2005. This effort, despite of the sub-par sound quality, already hinted at the direction the music would take. In October 2007 Dimaeon released the "I, Mortal" EP. The two compositions that make up "I, Mortal" showcase an even more diverse spectrum of sounds than before, lyrically supporting the post-apocalyptic images the music evokes.

In 2009 Jelle and Janneke joined Sincerus and Dimaeon found a new drummer in Danny (vocals and synths in Disintegrate). Currently, the band is working on new material, the first three chapters of what will become a concept album already written. The first chapter, entitled "The Blood Of Millions" was played live a couple of times, and proved to be an overwhelmingly brutal opener. The contrast with the second chapter is immense, making clear the music is going to be taken into the extremes even more than before!
